What I Learned This Spring from My Third-Grade Boys

The YoVille Pet Shop

The YoVille Pet Shop

Each year I learn something different from my students. This year’s boys have taught me all about playing the game YoVille on Facebook.  It’s a game where you make a character representing yourself, go to work and get money, and then spend money buying things and decorating your apartment and/or house (eventually).

The boys in my class are fantastic decorators, and are often changing their apartments to completely different looks.  what has really surprised me is that at our school, I’ve run across almost no girls playing this game, but ALL the boys seem to be playing it!  I would have thought it would be girls who were more interested in a decorating game.  (Plenty of adults play this game, too.)

Yes, I *am* surprised the young men are so into decorating their places. :]

  2. Though I didn’t play this game for too long, I was not into decorating my apartment. I liked certain features, like the motor-racing that was a part of the game.
