Occupations Desired by Middle Eastern Third-Graders

Each year we do a fun class survey of the new third-graders. The questions on the survey were made up by the third-graders themselves, asking the questions they wanted to know about each other. Then we bind it into a book each year that students from our class can check out to read.

One of the survey questions asks for each child’s top three favorite desired occupations. I compared the surveys from 2002 with those of 2007:

2007 Most Desired Occupations:

doctor (8)

soccer player (6)

general, military man, army man, soldier (4)

pilot (3)

gymnist (3)

singer (3)

astronaut (2)

scientist (2)

dentist (2)

artist (2)

architect (2)

Other occupations which were mentioned one time each include:  wedding planner, archeologist, paleontologist, tennis player, museum worker, caterer, journalist, art teacher, sports teacher, soldier, basketball player, clown, boxer, policeman, pharmacist, advertiser, businesswoman, writer, car racer, dancer, and actor.

boss (2)

pilot (2)

teacher (2)

Other occupations mentioned only one time include:  driver, consul, crocodile hunter, archeologist, housewife, airplane rider, king, soccer player, tennis player, FBI, stable owner/horse breeder, cosmetic surgeon, inventor, marine bilogist, singer, rally racer, rich, policeman, millionaire, nurse, circus clown, comedian, lawyer, prince, and birthday clown.
